My name is Wilma Vermeij. I was born on the 4th of September, 1958 in Goes,
a small city in the southwest of the Netherlands.
To get acquainted with sculpturing techniques, I decided to join the SASK in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.
I finished this education in June 2008.
I have to admit that sculpturing has become a genuine passion for me.
It’s something I can do every day. .
Lately, I have been working with epoxy/polyester,
mainly because it is a strong and light material, which can also be used outside.
Above all, using epoxy/polyester allows me to give my sculptures a ‘tight finish’, which fits very well with the shapes of my sculptures.
Almost all of my designs are derived from human positions.
I strongly abstract these positions, and aim to exaggerate the lines and forms that are most important to me.
In this way, practically abstract forms and shapes emerge, but (almost)always with a figurative source of inspiration.
In my pictures I search for details and I try to get them more in three dimensions with a frame that refers/ or was a part of the subject.
